You, a Beginner Again?

How does it feel to be learning something new? Do you love it? Do you get frustrated? Kids are used to being newbies at things, but learning new skills as an adult can be a whole other kind of ride. What’s it like for you?

    Nice and sweet work 🙂

  2. Thank you Lisa for your encouragement and inspiration. You understand that taking on the challenge of learning something new and totally different for an adult can be a bit daunting at age 76. There is something reassuring about your voice and openness in sharing your love of the guitar that’s very motivational. I know you are a great teacher.

  3. Thanks for this very perceptive video Lisa. I have noticed that as I grow older, it has become more difficult to learn new things. My concentration span is also shorter. I used to be able to study and read for hours but now I tend to doze off. Recognizing these challenges allows me to adjust for them. I try to keep my guitar sessions shorter which requires a certain patience but this seems to work well for me.

  4. Hi Lisa,
I am 63 and and sole carer for my 86 year old mother. My father died at 92 last year. Learning Guitar is one of the few things I can do at home as I can’t go out for very long as my mother is dependent of me. I have had many Guitar Teachers over 15 years(how time flies) and a few were good and most were so, so. I think you are a good teacher as you can change/explain whats difficult down to simple. You would be surprised how few Guitar Teachers can do this. Keep up the good work. I admire your talent.

    • Hi Garry,
My heart goes out to you in your challenging times caring for your mother, and losing your father. The guitar can indeed be a blessing when it offers respite and peace. Many many of us, including myself, have sought and found comfort in the guitar during trying times. Good for you for taking the time and having the wisdom to do this for yourself at this time.
      With warmest wishes, Lisa

  5. For me, it’s a struggle with the guitar and also with singing, which I want to do, but have always felt poor at. This weekend I was playing easy songs with someone and she asked me to sing the tune of “I walk the line” so that she could remember it. I tried maybe 5 times but couldn’t get the first line right. Finally, I said “It’s not coming back to me right now. I’ll get it later.” I surprised myself with what I said because normally I’d just feel embarrassed. Now I’ll allow that sometimes I can’t do things and the next day I can. Same thing happens with things I practice on the guitar. Puzzling, sometimes frustrating, but also nice!
