I love my job

iStock_Dad+TeenGirl Ever since publishing my first songbook, Easiest Holiday Songs Ever for Guitar, I have received some of the sweetest thank-you emails.

Here’s one: “Dear Lisa, This is awesome, and very timely! My daughter and I are working on doing a duet with a couple of these songs. We are currently working on O’ Christmas Tree, with my 11 year old daughter working on the rhythm, and me the melody”.

So sweet! A family holiday tradition in the making?

Lots of people are grabbing the book and adding it to their collection, and that makes me feel just great. Here’s more about the book, Easiest Christmas Songs Ever for Guitar.

How did I get so lucky?

Best wishes, Lisa

PS: I think it has something to do with following my passion. 😉

In an interview with GuitarTricks Brass, the site’s 50,000th subscriber, Tony, answers many questions, including:

“Who are your favorite Guitar Tricks instructors?”

” Right now Lisa McCormick is on the top of my list, followed by Andy Gurley and Joe Della. Lisa is a teacher’s teacher. She is very good at what is called “scaffolding”. Each lesson builds upon the previous one culminating in a finished song.”

Guitars Work Strange and Wicked Magic

Crystal'sCChord

I just love this article, “Guitar Town” by Greg Quill, published in the Toronto Star.

If you love your guitar, this is a must-read.

Greg begins,

“Guitars work strange and wicked magic.

In the right hands, a guitar is capable of conjuring up voices no human vocal cords can achieve, casting soul-stirring incantations and prompting urges no other instrument evokes.

Every guitar speaks intimately and obsessively to the man or woman who plays it.

Custom-made or off the rack, every guitar has a distinctive eloquence in the right hands.

And once you’ve learned its language, to manipulate its subtle tonal nuances, and caressed every angle of its body, you may think you’ve mastered it.

The truth is: the guitar owns you.”

Your Guitar vs. Your Career

I had a “Driveway Moment” the other day when this interview came on my NPR station. Physician Rupa Marya talks with Dick Gordon, of The Story, about being both a physician, and a guitar player. She is so real, so honest. I’m sure many of us can relate to her story. Here’s some of what she had to say:

Dr. Rupa Marya: Physician, Guitar Player

Dr. Rupa Marya: Physician, Guitar Player

“Picking up the guitar again, I felt like a jellyfish. I was wobbly and had too many arms, and didn’t know how to make a sound. And so the whole process of re-approaching “How do you make a sound that is clear and true?” became my first question.

And from there, it just continued to grow.”

(Dr. Rupa Marya, in an interview with Dick Gordon of American Public Media, for The Story, North Carolina Public Radio, WUNC, 2009)
